Talklines/Warmlines

  • Programs that provide telephone services where anyone can speak to an empathetic listener and obtain referrals. Usually staffed by volunteers.

Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault

  • Programs that provide immediate assistance for women and men who have experienced domestic or dating abuse which may include steps to ensure the person's safety; short-term emotional support; assistance with shelter; legal information and advocacy; referrals for medical treatment; ongoing counseling and/or group support; and other related services. Hotline staff are generally available via telephone, email, chat and/or text.

Mental Health and Suicide Prevention

  • Programs that provide immediate assistance for individuals who are having suicidal feelings with the objective of helping them explore alternatives to self-harm or self-destruction.

Youth

  • Programs that provide immediate assistance for people who are emotionally distressed with the objective of defusing the crisis, ensuring the person's safety and helping the person to take the next immediate steps toward resolving the problem

LGBTQ

  • Programs that provide immediate assistance for individuals who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, two-spirit or as part of other communities such as those in the process of coming out or questioning their sexual orientation or gender identity, and/or their friends and families.

Psychiatric Mobile Response Teams

  • Teams composed of mental health workers (psychiatrists, RN's, MSW's, psychologists, psychiatric technicians) who will intervene in situations where an individual's mental or emotional condition results in behavior which constitutes an imminent danger to him or herself or to another and is unwilling to seek voluntary treatment. These teams are generally operated by county mental health agencies and have the authority to issue an order authorizing involuntary inpatient hospitalization for up to 72 hours.

In Person Crisis Intervention

  • In person assistance for those who are emotionally distressed and/or their friends and family to meet face-to-face with someone who has been trained to assess and resolve the immediate crisis, if possible, and to link the person with appropriate resources for ongoing assistance.

Anger Management

  • Educational and/or therapeutic opportunities for those interested in or who need to learn how to deal with anger in a positive, functional way.

Bereavement Counseling

  • Emotional support, problem-solving assistance, information and guidance for people who have recently lost a loved one.

Domestic Abuse

  • Treatment for individuals who are being physically, sexually and/or emotionally abused by their partners, and/or for perpetrators.

Eating Disorders

  • Inpatient and outpatient therapy for those anorexia nervosa, binge-eating disorder, bulimia or a related eating disorder.

General

  • Individual and group therapy, medication, and other services for those with mental health or other personal conflicts.

Group Counseling

  • Therapist-facilitated treatment sessions where un-associated groups of people discuss their feelings and problems, and using input from other members of the group, attempt to achieve better understanding and explore solutions to their problems.

Perinatal and Postpartum Depression

  • Help for those with a crisis pregnancy including coping with parenthood and emotions.

Sexual Assault

  • Crisis as well as short- and long-term counseling for those coping with non consensual sexual acts.

Sex Offender

  • Voluntary or court-ordered counseling for those who have committed or are at risk of committing sexual offenses.

Youth

  • Counseling programs that specialize in youth and issues particularly problematic for youth.

Drop-In Centers

  • Alternative, nonresidential services and programs for those who have mental, emotional or social problems.

Psychiatry and Medication

  • Programs that prescribe medications for control of psychiatric symptoms. Programs that provide mobile response to situations where an individual constitutes an imminent danger to themself or others.

Inpatient Mental Health

  • Hospital-based diagnostic and treatment services for those with acute psychiatric disorders that require hospitalization on a voluntary or involuntary basis, and that might make one a threat to themselves or others if left in the community or placed in a less restrictive treatment setting. The objective is to stabilize and return the individual to the community for ongoing treatment as quickly as possible, and to facilitate the transition by preparing the individual's family to cope with the limitations imposed by the illness and by arranging for other supportive services as required.

Psychiatric Day Treatment

  • Places that provide a therapeutic environment for individuals who have acute or chronic mental or emotional disturbances who can benefit from a structured environment for some portion of the day or week. Services may include individual, group and/or family therapy; social and recreational activities; and a range of adjunctive therapies.

Home Based Mental Health

  • Clinical therapeutic services, medication, daily living assistance, and other mental health services for those unable to leave their homes. Services for families with children experiencing a crisis so severe the child is at imminent risk for hospitalization or placement in a residential treatment facility. And home-based services for those for whom it is the most appropriate option.

Child/Adolescent Residential

  • Therapeutic living environments in a community-based facility for emotionally disturbed, severely learning disabled, delinquent, pre-delinquent and/or abused children and youth who, because of the severity of their problems, are unable to adjust to other placements but do not require inpatient psychiatric hospitalization.

Alcohol Dependency

  • Emotional support in a group environment for those who have or at risk of alcohol use disorder.

Bereavement

  • Emotional support in a group environment for those who have experienced loss.

Caregiver and Care Receiver

  • Emotional support in a group environment for those who are caregivers or attendants to those unable to care for themselves due to short or long-term illness, age, or disability.

Domestic Violence

  • Emotional support in a group environment for those who have been involved in physical or emotional abuse by a spouse or other partner.

Drug Dependency

  • Emotional support in a group environment for those struggling with the use of drugs.

  • Emotional support in a group environment for those with disabilities, illness, or health conditions as well as their family and friends.
